The Inspecting Committee is a sub-committee of the Board of Managers (predecessor to Board of Trustees). The log consists of reports of inspections, made by the Committee visiting the Hospital between April 4, 1878 and September 20, 1938, noting the physical condition of various areas of the Hospital. A majority of the entries are handwritten; a few of the later reports are typed. Most reports are a paragraph or two in length; of note are the substantially longer reports on the condition of Vanderbilt Pavilion upon its closing (p.238) and a report on renovation of sections of the Hospital in February 1916 (p.159)
