Administrative history

The Mount Sinai Doctors Faculty Practice is the clinical practice arena of the faculty of the Icahn School of Medicine of Mount Sinai. It was created as the Faculty Practice Associates (FPA) in 1984 when the Mount Sinai Medical Service Plan was re-named. The Medical Service Plan became operational in 1973 to govern the practice arrangements of salaried faculty. Its creation led to the phasing out of the Geographic Full-time Faculty rank. In 2012, the FPA was renamed to the Mount Sinai Doctors Faculty Practice.

From the Mount Sinai Doctors website: "Mount Sinai Doctors is an organization of hundreds of clinical relationships and multispecialty services that expand the Mount Sinai Health System’s footprint beyond the eight main hospital campuses into the greater New York City area. The goal of Mount Sinai Doctors is to provide an easy way for our patients to take advantage of the expert care our physicians provide, without having to venture far from the areas in which they live and work. The geography of Mount Sinai Doctors is continually growing and currently encompasses many locations throughout Manhattan, the Five Boroughs, New Jersey, Long Island, Westchester County, and Florida. The board certified physicians of Mount Sinai Doctors are able to provide both general and specialty care without the need to come to one of our main hospital campuses. Should the situation arise where additional intervention is necessary, Mount Sinai Doctors physicians have direct access to the tertiary and quaternary care of the Mount Sinai Health System’s foremost specialists in a number of fields."
