When Mount Sinai School of Medicine was being formed, and over its early years, the institution would hold a ceremony to mark the installation of a faculty member into a newly endowed chair. This practice began in 1965 when the first event was held investing three Deans into their offices, marking the creation of the School. The last investiture for which the Aufses Archives has a recording was in 1982. Generally the events were hosted by the Dean or the Chairman of the Board of Trustees. Administrators and funders might speak. A guest speaker, chosen by the inductee, would give a brief talk, and then inductee would make brief remarks. In September 1986, the first annual medical school convocation was instituted by Dean Nathan Kase, and all new endowed chairs have been recognized at this annual event ever since.
